Notes |
Chain of Hearts
|
Rosary Vine, Chain of Hearts, Collar of Hearts, and Hearts Entangled |
Love bright, indirect light. They’ll become fuller and grow faster if they get at least six hours of light per day. |
They like to dry out between watering in order to avoid root rot. |
|
Croton
|
|
Give these indoor plants the brightest spot in your home! Direct sun is fine for Crotons. |
Let the soil partially dry out before watering it again. |
|
Dieffenbachia
|
Dumb Cane |
Most varieties do well in low light, but some Dieffenbachia varieties like a little more indirect sunlight. |
Overwatering this or any houseplant should be avoided. Although these plants don’t like to dry out completely, it’s important that they never sit in standing water. |
Dieffenbachia are poisonous if ingested, so be very careful if you have pets and/or small children. |
Hoya
|
Wax plant, Wax Flower, Porcelain Flower, or just Hoya |
These houseplants like lots of bright, indirect sun. |
Let your Hoya indoor plants dry out between watering. Soak the soil thoroughly until the water drains out of the drainage holes. |
|
Monstera
|
Ceriman, Swiss Cheese Plant, Monstera, Mexican Breadfruit, Delicious Monster |
These indoor plants can handle low light, but if you want them to grow faster and produce larger leaves, provide medium to bright indirect light. |
Monstera love a good soaking after the soil has almost completely dried out. |
Monstera are poisonous if ingested, so be very careful if you have pets and/or small children. |
Palm
|
Pony Palm |
They thrive in bright indirect light for at least five hours a day. |
The large basse of the Ponytail will store lots of water, so always err on the side of dryness. You will only need to water these plants approximately once a month, but the ideal frequency of watering will be determined by pot size (the smaller the pot, the greater the frequency) |
|
Philodendron
|
Brasil, Lemon, Heartleaf Philodendron |
Philodendrons prefer medium to bright indirect sunlight, but can live in lower light conditions. |
Water the soil thoroughly after the soil is almost completely dry. It is a good indication to give it water when the leaves start wilting. |
Philodendron plants are poisonous if ingested, so be very careful if you have pets and/or small children. |
Pothos
|
Golden Pothos, Money Plant, Devil’s Ivy, Devil’s Vine, Silver Vine, Taro Vine, Silver Pothos |
Pothos prefer medium to bright indirect sunlight, but can live in lower light conditions. |
Water the soil thoroughly after the soil is almost completely dry. When the leaves start wilting, it is the best time to water it. |
|
Prayer Plant
|
Calathea, Prayer Plants, Cathedral Plants, Peacock Plants, Zebra Plants, Rattlesnake Plants, Stromanthe, Ctenanthe |
The Calathea, Maranta Stromanthe and Ctenanthe genus will do moderately well in moderately low light, but they prefer to be in medium to bright indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight as this will fade the plant’s color and burn the leaves. Plants that have more colorful leaves will benefit from having more filtered bright light. |
Water these indoor plants when one inch of soil is dry. At that point, water thoroughly and make sure there is adequate drainage. Use filtered water whenever possible, and make sure your plant is not left in standing water! |
|
Sansevieria
|
Snake plant, Mother in Laws Tongue, Saint George's sword, Viper's Bowstring Hemp |
These plants will tolerate low to bright indirect light, but if you want flowering and faster growth, place them in bright indirect light. |
Water this plant only when the soil is completely dry. Remember, it is a succulent, so its leaves hold moisture. |
Snake Plants are poisonous if ingested, so be very careful if you have pets and/or small children. These houseplants are considered the best air purifying plants out there because they clean formaldehyde from the air and release oxygen at night. These guys are perfect bedroom companions! They like to be root bound, so you do not need to repot them often. |
Senecio
|
String of Pearls, String of Dolphins |
These sweet things need lots of indirect light. It is very important to allow for the top of the plant to get light, as well. It helps dry out the soil and prevent fungus through overwatering. |
Overwatering String-of-Pearls is the most common cause of decline. Because they have shallow roots, they should be kept in shallow pots and watered thoroughly ONLY when completely dry (the little pearls will start to pucker). |
String of Pearls are poisonous if ingested, so be very careful if you have pets and/or small children. |
Fern |
Victoria, Bird’s Nest. Rabbit’s Foot |
Medium, indirect dappled light will bring out the best in them. |
Ferns need constant moisture, but don’t let them sit in standing water. |
